How do I calculate my hourly wage?
Monthly salary (net) divided by the number of work hours per month. At 40 hours/week, that's about 173 hours/month.
Gross or net?
This calculator uses net — that's what actually lands in your account and what you have available for spending.
Why think in work time?
Money is abstract, time isn't. When you know a restaurant visit costs 1.5 hours of work, you think differently than at '30 euros'.
Are taxes included?
Yes — when you enter your net salary, everything is already deducted. You see your real available hourly wage.
How does inflation affect my hourly wage?
If your salary stays the same but prices rise, your real hourly wage drops. At 5% inflation, you'll work 5% longer for the same purchase next year. Example: Your lunch costs €20 today and you work about 74 minutes for it. Next year it costs €21 — but now you work 78 minutes for it. That's why regular salary reviews matter — your pay needs to at least keep up with inflation.
